Buzz Aldrin followed him a bit later while Mike Collins stayed in orbit "Carrying the fire". Most likely the greatest achievement of mankind in the 20th century.
Launched July 16th at Kennedy Space Center the crew made history when they safely returned to earth July 24th and were picked up by the USS Hornet recovery ship.
