Mercury Redstone 4 was piloted by Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom. Launched july 21st 1961 Grissom became the 2nd American in space with "Libery Bell 7".
 
This presentation bears a fragment of insulation tape recovered from the sunken capsule july 20th 1999 and removed during restauration process at the Kansas Cosmosphere Space Center.
The source of this heatshield is recovery leader Curt Newport.
